TOM LANE

Digital Artist

Tom Lane is a Hamburg based new media artist, and is currently a guest lecturer on the Digital Media Masters programme at the HFK in Bremen.

His works use motion, audiovisual and interaction tools to explore the boundaries between artistic genres, blurring the lines between performance, film, installation and video game. His cross-genre works explore the fragility of the human condition against the backdrop of an increasingly alienating and weird, digital time, exploring transcendental experience and hallucination as methods for speculation. His examination of the crossover between organic and digital lives can be found throughout his works, which allows us to question our current relationships with technology and nature, the psychic and spiritual repercussions of such relationships, and what it might mean to be human in the futures we have in front of us.

Alongside this, he is a member of the Qualm Studio, a collective studio space on Stresemannstraße in Hamburg, regularly organising workshops and events for the local artistic community.
